BRIMS International Uillieann Piping Day Celebration

The Blue Ridge Irish Music School (BRIMS) and Pro Re Nata Brewery will be hosting a celebration of Irish bagpipes. International Uilleann Piping Day

happens the first weekend in November each year. It is a day to share “the pipes” with our community. Uilleann Pipes are the bagpipes of Ireland. While there are some similarities with other bagpipes around the world, Uilleann Pipes are very unique in the sounds they make and the type of music that can be played. The current pipe configuration has been in place for almost 300 years- even though the pipes are much older.

The complexity of the pipes allows pipers to explore many different types of playing styles and tunes. We will be celebrating everything Uilleann Piping. Our concert will highlight 8 amateur pipers from Virginia and the surrounding states.

The concert will be a mix of solo presentations, as well as sets with other Irish

instruments - Harp, Fiddle, and Flute.

To help promote the pipes, we will be offering a “Try the Pipes” experiencefor those who love the sound and want a more hands-on experience. 

By the way- this is how most pipers begin their piping path!

Our celebration will also showcase youth and adult traditional Irish Dancers- dancing to music played on the Uilleann Pipes. There will also be: Face Painting, Children activities, Irish “Give-aways”, Drink Specials, and just a lot of fun.
