About the Event

Workshop Details: Different Grooves for Different Tunes: Finding the right tempo to make the tune come alive Have you ever been awestruck to slow down a reel and find out just how much better it sounds? Or maybe there's a tune you played in a session once and it was just a few clicks faster and suddenly a whole other world of excitement? One of the easiest ways to rediscover a tune is to change the tempo. This is something that Alan and I have spent a lot of time thinking about... down to the BPM for each track on our album! In this workshop we will take some familiar tunes and talk about locking into the right groove and also how the same tune can be "felt" with various time-feels. All instruments.

Andrew Finn Magill has been featured on PBS, NPR, TEDx and MTV-U. Finn is a Fulbright fellow, North Carolina Arts Council fellow, and South Arts Emerging Traditional Artist. He has performed with John Doyle, Rising Appalachia, Peia, Peter Mawanga and many others. Finn grew up studying Irish, old-time, and bluegrass with dozens of the best fiddlers in the world every summer at The Swannanoa Gathering in Asheville, North Carolina. Finn has performed at venues which include Milwaukee Irish Fest, Celtic Connections, Olympia Hall in Paris, France, Disney World, and Malawi’s Lake of Stars Festival.
